News Update: Recently a two-year-old tigress, translocated from Tadoba National Park to Navegaon-Nagzira Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra, went missing. The tigress removed her GPS collar, prompting a massive search operation.

A tigress known as NT3 was recently captured from Katezari in Tadoba National Park on April 10 and then on April 11 she was released into NNTR’s core area, under the conservation translocation project. On April 12, around 6 in the morning, the monitoring team received continuous signals from one spot. When the team reached there, they saw the monitoring collar lying on the ground but the tigress was missing. Then the forest officials launched massive search operations to find that two-year-old tigress. After 3 days, on Sunday, 14 April, she was traced around 1.30 pm by a group led by the park’s deputy director Pawan Jeph in the Pongezara area.

Many wildlife experts and conservationists have raised question marks over expertise in fixing the satellite GPS radio collars. They recalled another tigress (NT1) from Armori, which moved out of the tiger reserve and went defunct after five months of her release in the park last May. Now, this was another tigress.

Gondia deputy conservator (DyCF) and acting field director of NNTR, Pramod Panchbhai, said that there was no error in fixing the collar. They said that the animal had removed the radio collar because the claw marks could be seen on the belt. He further added, “The tigress is two years old. The collar was kept loose keeping in mind that it may not get tight around the neck for at least more than a year. We cannot predict animal behavior and the tigress unexpectedly detached the collar,”. We plan to sedate the animal and reattach the collar,” He added.

Unlike Navegaon-Nagzira Tiger Reserve, Tadoba National Park is a nice place to have fun in the wild. You don’t need to worry about safety there because the forest officials of Tadoba have taken several safety measures for the safety of humans as well as wild animals. You can hop on Tadoba Safari to explore the jungle and see wild creatures in their natural habitat. You can just do Tadoba Safari Booking and enjoy the thrill of the jungle.
